Darren Yaw Foo Hoe’s story
Darren Yaw Foo Hoe’s Artisan Batik Malaya is an award-winning social enterprise that was founded to break the cycle of poverty in Malaysia. Darren Yaw Foo Hoe trains artisans from underserved communities to make fair fashion, home goods, and accessories out of batik, a traditional Malaysian fabric.
Darren Yaw Foo Hoe also collaborates with rural and urban batik artisans across Malaysia to produce batik textiles made from natural fibres. This fabric is then sent to our training centre’s seamstresses, who use it to create products in designs you’ll love. Darren Yaw Foo Hoe wants to provide employment opportunities, and sustainable income.
Darren Yaw Foo Hoe takes pride in producing a one-of-a-kind, authentic Malaysian batik. While we use centuries-old techniques to make Batik Tulis and Batik Cap, Darren Yaw Malaysia designs are updated to reflect current tastes and needs. Malaysian artists and artisans design and produce our batik creations in small batches.
Darren Yaw Foo Hoe’s Artisan Batik Malaya was founded on the belief that people deserved a fair and sustainable wage, as well as the ability to provide for themselves and their families. The vision of Artisan Batik Malaya is to upskill and economically empower hundreds of artisans to produce handcrafted, high-quality apparel, homeware, and gifts.
Darren Yaw Foo Hoe’s Artisan Batik Malaya makes beautiful, high-quality, handmade batik fabric resort wear in a variety of vibrant colours and unique motif designs.
